The fourth world: The Snake Yao and His Little Monk (12)

Recap

He picked up the little monk, his eyes were cold and without any emotion, “I am a snake yao and you are a wood spirit. The gap between our species is too big, I cannot accept it.”

Chu Shici propped his chin and looked at him with a smile, “Okay, then. I won’t kiss you anymore.”

“I’m not kidding.”

“I know, I respect your decision.”

Xunzhe: …

That’s it? Shouldn’t you insist a little bit, little monk?

This situation is different from what he thought.

After teasing Zhe-ge, Chu Shici jumped off his hand, picked up a piece of animal-shaped biscuit and ate it.

He could feel that someone was staring at him from behind. When he turned his head, Xunzhe was basking in the sun behind him.

Bathed in the sun, the snow-white scales glisten, reflecting light that it almost seems to glow.

A pair of golden eyes was closed slightly, giving one a sense of tranquility.

Chu Shici raised his eyebrows and turned around again, the feeling of being stared at appeared again.

The system drank tea while watching the excitement, [He is looking at you.]

‘I know, let him be for a few days.’

[Didn’t he say he will not accept it? There is a heroine in this book. Aren’t you afraid that he will run away with the heroine?]

‘No, Zhe-ge is not the type to accept these kinds of affection if he really doesn’t want to, but he does care about us being different. He is still contemplating whether to accept my pursuit or not, but he does like the feeling of me sticking to him. So he chose a compromise method and wants me to continue chasing after him.’

Chu Shici dusted off the biscuit crumbs in his hand, and chuckled silently, ‘I won’t just follow what he wants. He said no, don’t regret it later.’

The system doesn’t understand, [After Gu Yunzhe rejected you in the last world, why didn’t you react like this.]

‘Gu Yunzhe lost his memory and was being pursued. He is in a precarious situation and I am the only one beside him. Whether he is willing to accept a relationship or not, he explained it to me very well, and proposed to be friends even if he can’t be a lover. If it really drove me away, he would be very scared if he is left alone again. Gu Yunzhe said no, which showed that he really can’t overcome our differences this time.’

‘Xunzhe’s is in a much better situation than Gu Yunzhe’s, he doesn’t have so many worries. I secretly kissed him and touched his muscles. If he really doesn’t like me, he would have parted ways with me long ago because of these things. He said he doesn’t accept me, but in reality he is waiting for me to chase him.’

Chu Shici paused, then turned to look at the snake yao basking in the sun, “He is a thousand-year-old snake yao and he always wins every fight, yet he still thinks that he was caught five hundred years ago because those people did not respect martial arts and did not give him a fair fight. He is not controlled by others and has a lot of confidence. He will do whatever he wants in front of me and isn’t afraid to be a little rebellious.’

[The vitality value……]

‘It’s okay. After leaving the cave, the vitality value will no longer be dependent on me. He is free again and can walk freely in the outside world. His life will not entirely revolve around this small monk. Previously, I acted too recklessly.’

Xunzhe occupies the window sill, he presses his hands against the glass, and looks down at the cars running on the road.

Sensing the gaze of the little monk, he moves his body as subtly as he can, leaving a small space next to his hand, and then continues to stare at the car expressionlessly.

Chu Shici pretended not to understand and sat there without going over.

A few minutes later, his tail began to move around slightly, and its owner was also peeking at him from the corner of his eye.

Chu Shici nudged the system and motioned it to look at his tail.

The system giggled strangely, [Oh yoyo, little tsundere.]

Xunzhe quickly noticed the reaction of his snake tail, and his lower body quickly turned into a pair of human legs.

He pulled the bedsheet on the side around his body, without even looking at the little monk, he went straight to the bathroom to fill the bathtub with water.

Chu Shici’s eyes became softer.

His Zhe-ge’s pride has not yet been destroyed by fate in this world.

He too was on the verge of breaking down, but after leaving the cave where he was imprisoned, he healed little by little.

Exposing his prideful nature so early shows that the surrounding environment makes Xunzhe feel very comfortable, and he can relax and be himself.

The moment the seal was broken, Chu Shici knew that he could no longer be Zhe Ge’s life-saving straw.

The system admired the photo of the perfect man and snake basking in the sun, glanced at the host and casually teased: [You’re smiling like a proud aunt.]

‘Zhe-ge’s life is better than in the previous few worlds, I’m very happy. ’

___

When White Snake was taking a bath in the bathroom, he put a soap box into the water.

The little monk bounced around the bathtub a few times before sitting in the soap box.

Xunzhe closes his eyes and rest his mind, as if he doesn’t notice him at all, but his vitality value secretly increases a little, jumping from 34 to 35.

Chu Shici row the boat in front of him.

Xunzhe look at him with lowered eyes, with a subtle twinkle in his eyes.

When he reach out to touch the little monk, Chu Shici row away again.

The slender hand stopped in the air for two seconds before it changed direction and took the soap at the side and played with it.

After teasing Zhe-ge, Chu Shici was floating in the bathtub, frowning in thought.

Lady Dayangtian has obviously clung onto Xunzhe. She has been biding her time for so long, either because she is thirsting for him, or because she has other plans.

She would not have been silent for five hundred years if that is not the case. Chu Shici suspects that Lady Dayangtian might have arranged something in secret. It’s not finished yet, but sooner or later Xunzhe has a high risk of being counter attacked.

Before her plan is completed, it is better to take the initiative and kill her as soon as possible.

The more Chu Shici thinks about it, the more he feels that waiting is not an option. He decides to go back to Dayangtian Ming Temple first, to find out why Dayangtian worked so hard to give her worshippers a pregnancy, and what happened in the temple when Xunzhe was sealed.

After dealing with the Dayangtian Ming Temple, he wants to go to the Fox Immortal Temple and meet the ancestor of the little foxes.

Chu Shici poked at the snow-white tail of the snake in front of him, and expressed his thoughts.

Xunzhe was silent for a while, then said coldly: “This matter has nothing to do with you, why are you insistent on getting involved?”

This is a giveaway question, Chu Shici thought for a while, “Lady Dayangtian probably wants to harm you, I want to protect you.”

Xunzhe snorted coldly, “You want to protect me?”

“Yes, because you are my boss.”

As soon as Chu Shici finished speaking, the soap box was knocked over.

Seeing the little monk bobbing up and down in the water, Xunzhe withdrew his fingers and was about to let out a laugh when he saw the little monk swimming up to him and laying down on his abs.

He lowered his eyes and looked at him for a while, his face gradually turning red.

The bathroom became extremely quiet for a moment.

This innocent snake yao is easy to tease.

When Chu Shici had already started to think about what kind of play the small wooden carving could do with his body, a man’s cold voice came from above his head.

“The order is wrong. Snake yaos are not good at breaking spells. The monks in Dayangtian Ming Temple are controlled, and they won’t be able to tell you anything. Go to the old monk tonight. If you can’t find him, go directly to the Fox Immortal Temple. The ancestor they speak of should be Dayangtian.”

Just as Chu Shici was about to nod his head in response, Xunzhe suddenly frowned and said, “You have manifested a spirit for many days now. It’s time to cultivate. If you continue to be so lazy, you will never be able to change form for hundreds of years.”

When this matter was mentioned, Chu Shici, the fake yao, panicked, ‘Tong-ge, can I practice?’

[Please don’t have unrealistic illusions.]

He sighed and began to make up lies.

It is said that he is a small piece of wood that relies on Buddha’s energy to manifest a spirit, and is destined to only practice Buddhism. After his heart was moved, there was no way to cultivate it anymore, so he could only be an accessory.

Xunzhe pick up the little monk, put him on the tip of his nose and smell him carefully, and indeed he only smell a scent of incense from the temple.

He spit out a yao pill* and put it in front of the little monk, and found that he couldn’t absorb it at all.

*(a small pill shaped object which contains a bit of yao qi*, I assume when yaos cultivate, the power is stored inside the yao pill (dan), what he spat out is probably a small yao dan containing a bit of the yao qi)

*(for more information on qi)

Xunzhe pondered for a long time, and his brows slowly eased: “There are many supernatural beings in the world, and there are also many humans who specialize in catching supernatural beings like us. You should follow me and don’t run around. With me, no one in this world can hurt you.”

Chu Shici observed Zhe-ge, who hadn’t realized what being unable to transform means at all.

The snake yao’s mind is clean and not the slightest tinge of yellow in it.

Chu Shici felt his conscience ache when he thought of pulling this kind of person to play with in the future.

___

Dayangtian Ming Temple at night is exceptionally quiet; the temple is shrouded in darkness, as if everyone has fallen into a deep sleep.

Chu Shici lay on top of Xunzhe’s head as he climbed over the wall into the temple.

As before, Xunzhe searched the entire temple but couldn’t find the old monk.

He remembered reminding the wavy-haired woman not to open her eyes in front of the golden statue, but she is probably dead now.

When they passed by the backyard, a few chickens in the cage woke up and started clucking loudly.

Chu Shici turned his head and surveyed the surroundings. He noticed that there was a chicken lying motionless in the corner alone. The night is too dark, and he can’t see clearly.

After searching for a long time but not finding the old monk, Xunzhe turned around and walked towards the cabin. This is the only place he has not seen yet.

He casually broke the door lock and pushed the wooden door open.

On the altar in the center of the room, another golden statue with vague features appeared at some point.

The moment he pushed open the door, the statue turned into that of a fox head, staring straight at him.

Xunzhe reacted quickly, subconsciously turning his head sideways, and at the same time took off the little monk and stuffed him into his arms.

He spoke in a low voice: “Dayangtian, what the hell are you?”

The statue on the altar did not answer, but smiled strangely at him.

The next second, the wooden door behind Xunzhe suddenly slammed shut. Countless fox faces emerged on the walls, ceiling and floor of the room.

They are so densely packed that it is hard to see how many there are at a glance, their green eyes looking at Xunzhe in unison.

Chu Shici heard some strange noises outside and wanted to poke his head out to have a look, but he pushed him back again.

The system broadcasted live to him, [Fuck, there are a lot of fox faces everywhere, one next to the other, I’m going to have trypophobia.]

‘Will it be difficult to deal with?’

[I don’t know, I only know that your Zhe-ge is really angry now.]

Xunzhe’s lower body turned that of a snake tail, he gently pushed the little monk against his chest, closed his eyes and flicked his tongue.

The long, slender and forked scarlet tongue darted in and out quickly, and the surrounding environment gradually changed in front of Xunzhe’s eyes.

Out of the thousands of fox faces, there was only one main source, and he aimed at that and slammed it with his tail.

Chu Shici only heard a shrill scream, and then Lady Dayangtian was beaten back into a statue again by Xunzhe.

The wooden house returned to its previous calm state again, and Xunzhe’s face was gloomy and frightening.

The enemy escaped from his mouth again and again, he could no longer suppress the anger in his heart, and crushed the golden statue with one tail swipe.

After the tide passed, Chu Shici poked his head out.

Among the remains of the statue he saw a white stone that looked like pure white marble.

Xunzhe took a deep breath to calm down, picked up the stone and looked at it carefully.

It is irregular in shape, like the leftovers that fell from a large rock, and the warmth of the sun still remains on it.

Xunzhe held it, and there was a very familiar feeling.

Seeing him in a daze, Chu Shici couldn’t help asking, “Zhe-ge, have you seen it before?”

Xunzhe didn’t answer. After checking the inside of the house, he turned around and prepared to leave.

As soon as he went out, a few red-clothed ghosts appeared not far away. All of them looked at him in fear, and kept repeating, ‘Child, my child.’

Chu Shici shrank back in fear.

If the snake yao wasn’t there, these ghosts would have come over and tore him to pieces.

Xunzhe looked at them, his brows becoming tighter and tighter, “Only those who have obsession and resentment will become ghosts. Why are there so many evil ghosts talking about children here?”

“Ge, how do you think Dayangtian got so many infertile women pregnant? There was a woman who was forced to eat steamed buns dotted with the blood of the chicken before, and then she started muttering about giving birth to a child for Lady Dayangtian…”

In the middle of Chu Shici’s explanation, he confused himself.

He covered his head and thought for a long time, but he didn’t think about how the exact process could have happened.

Xunzhe flew over and grabbed the nearest red-clothed ghost, trying to get some information from her.

But she had already lost her sanity, she just stared straight at the small wooden sculpture in his arms, and kept calling for her child.

The ghost in red couldn’t be forced to spill anything useful, so Xunzhe followed the little monk’s instructions and went to search in the woods next to the temple.

At the place where the monk buried things, he found some old clothes of adults and a piece of paper with 8 characters of birth written on them.

The ashes inside the small pot had been mixed with soil, making it difficult to distinguish.

Xunzhe bent down close to the ground and sniffed carefully for a while, “They poured ashes.”

Chu Shici also compared the results here, “These 8 characters of birth matches that of a young couple who came to pray for a child.”

There should be some connection between them, but Xunzhe has lived in the mountains for a long time, so he doesn’t know much about the tricks people play outside.

He turn over a few more places, and uncovered all those things buried inside.

Everytime he dug out some ashes, the red-clothed ghosts would rush over to scrape at the dirt, trying to get to the ashes which are mixed in.

Chu Shici watch this scene quietly.

Although Xunzhe didn’t say anything, he felt that these ashes might be the remains of babies.

After a whole night, Xunzhe failed to find the old monk.

When night turned into day, they returned to the hostel and he lay on the bed staring at the stone in a daze.

Chu Shici took a small hammer and knock open the other two golden statues, obtaining two small stones.

He had just moved the stone to the lotus platform, and was going to take it to show Xunzhe.

Xunzhe, who had been silent all this time, suddenly said softly, “I remember what this is now.”

The little monk flew over and tilted his head to look at him.

Xunzhe fell into deep thought, “I am not an ordinary snake. In a Taoist temple, there is a white marble stone mural. It depicts the scenery of mountains, forest and lakes and also the creatures in the mountains. There was a small snake carved on a tree, and it is who I am now.”

Chu Shici was taken aback for a moment, “That’s why you said earlier that you are an inanimate object that gained a spirit?”

Xunzhe nodded slightly, “We had just manifested a physical body all the while humanity changed leaders, dynasties and environment. The Taoist temple was implicated. The stone carvings that stood in the Taoist temple’s courtyard were also destroyed. The stone carvings were broken into pieces, and the carved animals fled in all directions…”

He paused for a long time, picked up the stone and muttered to himself, “I didn’t expect that piece of white marble carving to have also manifested a spirit.”

Chu Shici figured it out.

No wonder Xunzhe couldn’t smell the scent of wildlife on Lady Dayangtian. When he approached her, he felt like he was approaching a stone that had been basked in the sun.

She is not an animal at all, she is also an inanimate object who has manifested a spirit, and her original prototype is a piece of white marble.

After experiencing the devastation of war, the animals on the carving were either broken or ran away. The stone sculpture was completely empty, leaving only broken stones.

Xunzhe’s tail was bitten by Dayangtian before, and a piece of meat is still missing from the back of Xunzhe’s leg in human form.

And Lady Dayangtian’s body is incomplete, so when she transforms, her face is covered with cracks, and her facial features are extremely blurred.

Chu Shici pondered for a moment, then suddenly his eyes widened, “Could it be that what she said about becoming one with you is what she meant literally. Her body is incomplete, and if she wants to recover, she must find the escaped animals in the painting? Are there foxes and monkeys in that painting?”

Xunzhe hummed thoughtfully, “Besides that, there are also birds in the sky, fish in the river, rabbits sticking their heads out in the forest, and deer drinking water.”

He paused, “The entire sculpture is very large, and the carving I was in only has them. The other carvings mainly depict mountains and forests, but I heard there are a few more animals in them as well.”

Chu Shici: …

There are so many small animals…This face of Lady Dayangtian, will probably never be pieced back together.
