Recap
“You’re going to sleep next door, right? Take out the trash on your way,” Rong Yu handed him the empty instant noodle cup.
This time, Yan Zhao didn’t respond with sarcasm. His actions were upright, and he didn’t even feel annoyed in his heart.
Perhaps he could use the small world to see his own heart more clearly.
“Actually,” Yan Zhao murmured.
“I don’t want to go to the other room.”
Rong Yu lazily lifted his eyelids and chuckled softly.
“So do you want to sleep in the wall?”
Yan Zhao: “…”
___
What Yan Zhao meant was that he wanted to spend the night in the same room with Rong Yu.
Not necessarily to do anything physical, just to sleep on the same bed, which would be a big step forward for the two of them, who had been estranged for so long.
Since he had begun to face his own feelings, he couldn’t keep running away. Yan Zhao wanted to try getting along with Rong Yu, bit by bit.
He feared that revealing his Lord God identity would lead Rong Yu to fight him on sight. For now, he could only use the zombie identity to get along with him.
All he could hope was that when his true self was revealed, Rong Yu wouldn’t hate him too much.
He didn’t expect Rong Yu to respond this way, though.
The Great Demon King had never had a good temper. Yan Zhao could start a cold war or make up at will—what did he take him for?
Yan Zhao wanted to stay, but Rong Yu wouldn’t have it.
Even though Rong Yu’s tone was casual and his demeanor lazy, as if it were just a throwaway comment, Yan Zhao knew he was seriously angry.
Sleeping in the wall… yes, that was something the demon king would do.
Evidently, Rong Yu was truly furious.
If it were before, the proud Lord God would never have tolerated such an insult and would have stormed off right away.
But thinking about all he had done—wrongfully pursuing him, tarnishing his innocence, giving him the cold shoulder without reason—his dignity seemed insignificant by comparison.
Besides, it was the zombie Yan Zhao’s face he’d lose, not the Lord God Yan Zhao’s face.
He comforted himself this way and, with a resolute heart, said, “If this will appease you…”
He didn’t dare use his Lord God powers in this world, fearing Rong Yu would notice, but fortunately, the Zombie King’s strength was enough.
Using his power, Yan Zhao made a large hole in the wall, big enough for a person, with debris scattered everywhere.
Amid the dust, Rong Yu squinted and coughed lightly a few times.
Was he demolishing the house at night?
Yan Zhao looked at the hole in the wall, trying to convince himself.
He doesn’t know who I am right now; losing face isn’t a big deal. He doesn’t know who I am… losing face doesn’t matter.
Then, with an expressionless face, he stepped into the wall.
His bright red face betrayed his embarrassment.
Rong Yu’s eyes widened, and his first reaction was: “Pfft—”
“Hahaha…!” He laughed so hard he slapped his thigh, tears almost streaming out, thoroughly amused.
This scene was really too funny.
If it were the silly zombie from before, it would be fine, but Rong Yu knew exactly who this was in front of him.
After chasing him through so many worlds, if he couldn’t recognize him at a glance, and hadn’t discovered it after all these days, then he had really lived in vain for so long.
It was just that he didn’t want to expose him.
He just wanted to see how long this Sun could keep acting.
That wise and mighty, proud and noble Sun God, just because of his angry words, foolishly sealed himself into the wall, and even hypnotized himself, thinking that he didn’t know.
Interesting, really interesting.
He had to say, he was extremely happy.
Yan Zhao listened to Rong Yu’s undisguised laughter, his face turning red from his neck to his ears, ashamed and embarrassed, but not angry.
He thought numbly, this was probably the most ridiculous day of his life.
And it was voluntary.
What was even more ridiculous was that he laughed so loudly, but he wasn’t angry at all, and even had the urge to laugh along.
If making a joke of himself could appease Rong Yu a little and make him happier, then it wouldn’t be in vain for him to act stupid like this.
It was better than Rong Yu frowning, pursing his lips, and being unhappy all day long.
Realizing this thought, Yan Zhao sighed softly.
He had indeed lost to this demon.
His heart was completely lost, utterly defeated. Rong Yu laughed for a long time before finally stopping, his voice still filled with laughter, “Since you like staying in the wall so much, then stay there forever.”
After saying that, he covered himself with the quilt and went to sleep, not planning to care about the great god on the wall anymore.
He wouldn’t soften his heart easily. It was really satisfying to see the Sun suffer.
Compared to the Sun who had no memory before, the one in front of him was the one Rong Yu hated the most.
Zombies didn’t need sleep. Standing in the wall all night wouldn’t tire him out, it just looked a bit ridiculous. But in the dead of night, no one could see this scene. The only audience, Rong Yu, was already asleep, and Yan Zhao became Rong Yu’s only audience.
Standing still was boring and uncomfortable. Yan Zhao stared at Rong Yu, not feeling bored at all.
He looked at Rong Yu’s sleeping posture and thought of things from a long time ago.
Gods and demons didn’t need sleep, but after excessive mental exhaustion, they would also recover their energy through dormancy. When he was in charge of the Myriad Gods Realm, he had to stare at billions of small worlds running at the same time every second, find the problematic planes from them, which was extremely mentally exhausting. When his eyes were sore and his brain was tired, he would rest his eyes on the divine throne for a while.
The main god was a workaholic. In the Myriad Gods Realm, apart from a divine throne serving as his office chair, there were only images of planes rotating at high speed around him all the time. When he was awake, he was staring at the small worlds all the time. When he was overworked, he would close his eyes and take a nap. This was the main god’s job, extremely boring and tedious.
And he didn’t even dare to rest for a moment longer.
There was no time in the Myriad Gods Realm, and time in the great world was passing by rapidly. Once the main god fell asleep, even if he only rested for a short while, he might miss abnormal information and wake up to find hundreds or thousands of small worlds destroyed.
Every destruction meant the disappearance of billions of lives.
All living beings were like ants to gods. If he were a truly cold and heartless main god, he wouldn’t care about the life and death of ants and could just let things go. But he wasn’t.
Every small world had a guardian god who swore to protect their world. As the ruler of the great world, the main god was holy and benevolent, and took it as his duty to protect the great world. For him, those who died weren’t ants, but his people. His one moment of distraction might cause countless lives to never be reborn.
This price was too heavy, and he didn’t dare to neglect his duty, which violated the light and justice in his divinity.
But he was really overworked and had to fall asleep, otherwise, the splitting headache would only lead to more mistakes.
The establishment of the Space-Time Administration greatly relieved his work pressure, but compared to the various accidents that occurred in the great world, this manpower was still a drop in the bucket.
Finally, one time, when he was asleep, there was a great chaos, the great world was in turmoil, hundreds of thousands of worlds had loopholes, and the number of lives lost was more than trillions.
Yan Zhao was awakened by the alarm. After inspection, he found that the biggest variable in the great world was Rong Yu, the Child of Destiny who had defected from World 6666.
This Demon King actually possessed power comparable to the main god, even stronger than the guardian gods in the small worlds.
Only a strong person of this level could cause such great damage.
Yan Zhao didn’t hesitate to personally pursue and capture him, vowing to bring this culprit to justice.
At first, he was full of disgust for this Demon King. Tens of thousands of worlds had loopholes, and the impact and losses were countless. It wouldn’t be a pity for him to die even if he was cut into pieces and his soul scattered.
The demon was stunningly beautiful and also powerful and invincible. His flames were even comparable to the fire of the sun. When he first saw him, the Demon King in red was slightly startled, and suddenly withdrew his flames, his eyes flickering, “You look like an old friend of mine.”
He only felt puzzled. It was the first time he had seen the Demon King, as a pursuer, so he raised his hand and attacked without mercy.
It was a killing move.
Ultimately, he was far older and more experienced than the demon king, and in direct combat, the other couldn’t match him.
The demon king barely dodged the attack, but still got injured. That sword had severed his hair tie, letting dark hair cascade down, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
The Lord God conjured a golden sword, ready to pierce the demon king’s heart and soul, erasing him from existence.
A few strands of cut hair fell to the ground. The demon king lowered his head, looking at them for a long time, his fingers tightly clenched, wrinkling his vibrant red robe.
“It seems…” the demon king looked up at him, wiping the blood from his lips, and smirked mockingly, “I was mistaken.”
The demon king possessed an unparalleled beauty; his enchanting eyes were so captivating they dimmed the world around him. Although he was smiling in that instant, his eyes looked desolate, as if everything he cherished had withered away. The teardrop mole at the corner of his eye appeared like a drop of his own fallen tears, which left the Lord God momentarily stunned and unable to strike.
Taking advantage of that moment, the demon king turned into a streak of red light and disappeared on the spot.
The Lord God stared at the empty space, finally snapping back to reality.
A demon king was indeed a demon king: cunning and deceitful, using words and gestures to seize an opportunity to escape. Next time they met, he wouldn’t be fooled so easily.
Thus began a chase across countless worlds.
Rong Yu was adept at hiding and fleeing, using one method after another, constantly coming up with new tricks. Yan Zhao, though powerful, was straightforward in his actions, often caught off guard and allowing him to escape repeatedly.
When Yan Zhao had eventually uncovered all his tricks, Rong Yu shamelessly resorted to seduction.
Apart from that first encounter when he’d been cornered by Yan Zhao’s golden sword, the demon king had never been in a pitiful or vulnerable state; he was always stunning, sly, and alluring.
Compared to all the worlds combined, Rong Yu alone was far more fascinating. After so many years of monotony, Rong Yu had stirred up all of Yan Zhao’s emotions.
Anger, helplessness, surprise, exasperation…
Yan Zhao had never met someone like this—a person who never forgot to enjoy life, even while on the run. Rong Yu carried a soft bed and blankets wherever he went, sleeping comfortably no matter the place, utterly lazy. Yan Zhao only rested when utterly exhausted, whereas Rong Yu rested simply for comfort.
Several times, when he detected Rong Yu’s location and teleported there, he found the demon king lazily crawling out of his bedding, one bare shoulder showing, and with half-lidded eyes, he’d say, “Lord God, you always appear in my bed. Are you hoping for a romantic night with me?”
They had clashed countless times, and Yan Zhao had grown immune to this level of seduction, producing his demon-binding rope without hesitation.
Instantly, the seductive beauty changed expressions, pleading, “Don’t tie me up; I’m afraid of pain.”
He was immune to that trick too. Yan Zhao coldly bound Rong Yu with the rope.
By this point, he was entirely unfazed by any of the demon king’s words.
Rong Yu blinked, suddenly kneeling and leaning in to kiss him, saying, “Chasing me for so long—I’ll agree to it, alright?”
Yan Zhao was stunned on the spot.
Rong Yu immediately broke free of the ropes and ran.
Words alone no longer affected the Lord God; now he needed a kiss to be effective. Rong Yu sighed.
Next time, he’d probably have to take it to the bed.
But when they met again, he ultimately didn’t do it.
…
Yan Zhao should have been able to capture Rong Yu long ago. Once Rong Yu had exhausted his tricks, it would have been easy to catch him.
He simply couldn’t bring himself to do it.
He didn’t know why he hesitated.
In the end, it was Rong Yu who voluntarily stopped running.
When they met again in a cultivation world, Rong Yu gave up and sat down on a large rock, saying, “I won’t run anymore. Do as you wish—kill me or whatever.”
He lowered his eyes and sighed softly, “I’m tired, too. You, Sun, are truly heartless.”
Yan Zhao walked up to him and summoned his golden sword.
Rong Yu chuckled lightly. “Ruthless Sun, you really are willing to kill me.”
But the golden sword suddenly transformed into a golden ring, wrapping around his right wrist and sealing his powers.
“I won’t kill you,” Yan Zhao ultimately couldn’t go through with it and said flatly, “But you’ll go to the minor worlds to complete tasks and redeem yourself. This is my life-bound weapon, the Crimson Sun Ring. Your powers are sealed within it, so don’t think of escaping again.”
Rong Yu looked up, raising an eyebrow. “Lord God, could it be that you’ve fallen for me?”
Yan Zhao’s expression was blank. “Don’t push your luck.”
“I think red suits me better, and I prefer beautiful accessories like blood jade. I used to have one, but I broke it and have always regretted it.” Rong Yu shook the gold ring on his wrist. “Could you turn it into a blood jade bracelet?”
Yan Zhao, by now familiar with his vanity and self-adoration, was unsurprised by this request. He indulged him with this small demand.
Rong Yu chuckled softly. “Then thank you, Lord God, for my token of love.”
Yan Zhao tolerated it, saying, “Also, stop spouting nonsense.”
“I never speak nonsense,” Rong Yu looked straight at him.
“You may forget the past, but I can see the future.”
