Recap

Ninth State was not destined to die. After being stabbed in the back by Zhang Ziqing, Ji Xinghai still appeared.

“After this time, he should have a place on the hero list of the overseas forum.” Everyone admires the strong, let alone the young hero; who can not like him?

“Our soldiers did not disappoint us, and we cannot disappoint him. After this instance, when the students enter the dormitory, they must get in touch with him, no matter what price the Hunger Academy asks for.”

The general manager touched his beloved pistol. This weapon, made of special materials, is also lethal to abnormal creatures. It is a product specially provided to the army: “Go all out to support him; this is an order!”

“Yes!”

___

Except for leaving one person alive to extract information; the other 23 people were all left on this mountain road, and the blood flowed down the stone slabs.

As the final winner, Ji Xinghai gained points and updated his arsenal.

The group brought him a modified light machine gun, five magazines full of bullets, and a lot of grenades and pistol bullets.

There were still many rifles that could not be taken away, and Ji Xinghai did not waste them. He shot each enemy twice to ensure that they could not wake up again.

After cleaning up the battlefield, he did not leave immediately but sat down with his back against a stone, took out two pieces of cooked sweet potatoes from his arms, and ate them without even peeling the skin.

At this moment, Ji Xinghai’s face was as white as paper, and his forehead was full of sweat. The audience could see that he was not in good condition at the moment.

However, he had a comfortable smile on his face, and the lazy sunshine sprinkled on his body, which made him feel an indescribable “good time.”.

[Why does Brother Hai look so tired?]

[I remember that he didn’t exercise much during this period.]

[It’s normal; he just doesn’t seem to consume much, but in fact, in this tense and exciting background, whether it is making plans or implementing them, it is crazy to consume mental and physical strength. You see he is half-kneeling there motionless, but even though he is motionless, accurate shooting requires accurate control of every muscle in the body. This matter is extremely physically demanding, and it is difficult to maintain high-intensity concentration. ]
The audience silently watched Ji Xinghai, who was covered in dust and grinning while eating a cold and dry sweet potato with skin.
Even if he was leaning against a rock, one of his knees was bent, alert and ready to kill at any time with a gun in his hand, which formed an extremely contradictory contrast with the comfortable expression on his face.
[Ji looks like a minor, but he is very reliable and a real soldier.]
[I really envy the people of Ninth State for being protected by such a warrior.]
There were many machine-translated messages on the screen, and the Ninth State audience realized that Ji Xinghai’s live broadcast room had so many comments that were obviously not from Chinese people, and most of the comments were friendly, as if they were meant to be worshipful.
Student Ji is like a rose that blooms alone in a thorn bush after a storm. Only an empire like the Ninth State can raise such a beautiful and powerful rose knight, right?
Hiss…
Hmm…
After eating two sweet potatoes and replenishing his energy a little, Ji Xinghai led the bound captive into the woods. When the captive woke up, he was already hanging on a crooked tree. His wounds were no longer bleeding, and his mouth was sealed with a cloth strip. Ji Xinghai also found a stone and tied it to his feet with vines, so that the captive could not even shake it.
“Your companions are all dead, and the operation has completely failed. Even if I let you go, do you think you can survive if you go back?” Ji Xinghai asked this question directly in M language. The captive’s face turned pale, and he gradually stopped struggling, and even his eyes were gray.
They were cruel to outsiders and to their own people. They wanted to live after the mission failed.
Seeing him like this, Ji Xinghai used the short knife he had seized in his hand to pick up the cloth strip tied to the captive’s mouth.
“What is your purpose? No, who are you? Which government sent you?” This man didn’t believe that Ji Xinghai was an ordinary person at all. The only explanation was that he was a soldier.
However, Ji Xinghai did not answer his question. He liked to take the initiative and hold a strong position in interpersonal communication rather than being led by others.
“From your accent, you sound like you’re from Nansang. You’re not married and have kids your age, right? Aren’t your parents worried?”

The captive’s eyes widened. When Ji Xinghai mentioned ‘parents’, his eyes were full of guilt.

So Ji Xinghai changed his tone and brought out some ethereal nostalgia: “It just rained, and the wild mushrooms have grown. It is said that women in Country M use wild mushrooms to make wild mushroom bamboo tube rice. Have you eaten this year’s wild mushroom bamboo tube rice?”

Without looking at the background or the person, just listening to Ji Xinghai’s gentle voice, you’d have thought this was a random stranger on the streets, asking out of curiosity. The viewers didn’t quite understand.

[Why did they hang him up like this just to say these two sentences?]

[Shh, this is a psychological-attack.]

[Psychological-attack? ]

[Look at this person’s expression.]

A group of people looked at the captive, who didn’t care at first. The young captive’s eyes were a little distracted, and he seemed to have recalled the past with Ji Xinghai’s voice.

The most beautiful taste is the taste of mother. At this moment, the power of wild mushroom bamboo tube rice is no less than “Have the cold plum blossomed yet” and “XXX, are the cherry blossoms in your hometown in full bloom?”.

[Whether it is the family members in your hometown or the local delicacies, they are all meant to awaken the other person’s nature as a human being. People have seven emotions and six desires, and they have concerns, so they will be afraid and reveal secrets. You see, this person has hesitated.]

[I want to eat a wild mushroom hot pot.]

[The person above should be more serious.]

“Remember the villagers you killed?” Ji Xinghai looked at the captive and dared not look him in the eye.

“There are many people about your age in there, right? In this season, they should carry baskets on their backs to collect wild mushrooms, wild vegetables, and wild fruits in the mountains and give them to their elderly parents and hungry children. If they see beautiful wild flowers on the road, they will also collect them and give them to their beloved girls.”

“Stop talking!” The captive shouted weakly.

“How long have you not been home? Are your parents okay? What about your friends in your hometown and the girl you once loved? So why did it become like this? What made you unable to return home, unable to be a human being, and only be a terrible devil?”

“Please stop talking.” He almost begged, “What is your purpose? Whatever your purpose is, I don’t know anything.”

Hearing his somewhat flustered voice, Ji Xinghai laughed. Of all the mercenaries, he only left this one person. Of course, he has his own considerations.

Look, if this person is really unwavering, why is he suffering now?

Ji Xinghai has observed these mercenaries. They live in a bloody environment and have long been unaware of life and death. Even if they were at a disadvantage and he pointed a gun at them, they were all fearless. Only this one showed fear in his eyes, which was the best breakthrough.

Ji Xinghai laughed for a while and stopped: “Do you know what is the most abundant here?”

“What?” The young captive didn’t want to answer, but he couldn’t help being curious.

“Poisonous insects and wild beasts are the most easily attracted to flesh and blood. You are a local, and you know how terrible they are.” The cold dagger was against his neck. Ji Xinghai was still smiling, but he was no longer as gentle as before. The captive shrank his neck to avoid the cold touch, but he couldn’t.

The dagger was very sharp. A slight scratch would create a small artery. Blood gushed out. Not much, but it kept flowing. The dripping scent of blood was getting stronger and stronger. The captive was already scared out of his wits.

“You won’t die immediately. Fresh blood will first attract bloodthirsty flying insects in the forest. They are small, as small as rice grains, and will drill into the wound and keep sucking. Do you think they will drill into your blood vessels? …Ah, you seem to be bleeding, and you can’t stop it for a while.”

Death is not terrible, but once that moment has passed, one will need to wait slowly for death, and death becomes torturous.
Ji Xinghai tilted his head and thought, “The blood in the human body accounts for 7-8% of the body weight. How long do you need to bleed? Before you really die, will you attract poisonous insects? And the wild animals are here. Will you live to watch them eat up your blood and flesh bit by bit?”

Whether it was coincidence or not; at this time, a small black insect really flew over and landed on the captive’s neck. He thought of the wild animals in the mountains that were eaten to the point of being only skeletons and screamed in fear. His pants were wet, and a fishy smell wafted out.

He was actually incontinent.

Ji Xinghai said directly, without changing his expression, “I ask you questions, and you’ll answer them. If you cooperate, I will give you a quick death. And you can keep your body intact after death, and I won’t have to hang it on the treetops for wild animals to eat. Everything that happens here will be a secret between us. Except for you and me, only God and the earth know it.”

[No, there are us.]

The captive stared at him for a while, then lowered his head, which was a tacit agreement.

[What’s going on?] [Why did you suddenly give in? I don’t think Brother Hai did anything. No slashing, no threats, just a promise of quick death—did the other party actually surrender?]
[What else? Don’t look at it as just a few words; both are doomed to die; one is being drilled by poisonous insects and eaten by wild beasts, and the other is a painless, quick death with the body preserved. The price is just some insignificant thing compared to death; what would you choose? Besides, this man has long been timid; he doesn’t have such strong willpower. ]
One question, one answer, and the captive quickly confessed himself.
He was originally a villager in a nearby small village because he thought those mercenaries were majestic, rich, had women, and lived a carefree life, so he yearned to work for them and voluntarily joined before he was 18 years old.
At that time, he broke off relations with his original family—or rather, his parents unilaterally broke off relations with him.

However, the life of working for others is not as good as he imagined.
The mercenaries drank and reveled because they lived short lives. They died at any time. They lingered in the fireworks field every day because good women would not like them, let alone start a family with them.

So they spent money when they had it, had fun when they had time, and never thought about the future.

The young man regretted it. He wanted to go back but couldn’t, and he didn’t want to kill people but had to kill.

All those who didn’t dare to kill died. If he didn’t dare to kill, he would die too, so he killed many people, including the old, weak, women, and children. While killing, he lied to himself, saying that those who were killed were not human beings.

“Did your team accept the task of “massacring the village”?

“Yes, I heard that it was issued by ‘Deng’  the nephew of “General.” He is a big man and very rich, and many people came.” As a low-level mercenary, he didn’t know much. He only knew that “Deng” had a bad reputation, and “General” asked him to solve the problem here as soon as possible, and then there was this task.

Ji Xinghai asked them in detail about the number of people left here, the approximate personnel and equipment configuration, and the current specific situation at the foot of the mountain.

Perhaps he felt that he had already opened his mouth; the captive was desperate and not only told Ji Xinghai what he wanted to know but also told him bits and pieces that he had not asked.

Since he was going to die, he might as well say it out loud.

“I want to go home and farm. I miss my parents in my hometown. I regret it.” Before he died, he remembered everything he had given up. The young man burst into tears; he was ignorant but not innocent, pitiful, and hateful.

“Close your eyes, and you will see it.”

The executioner with the gun said to him gently, “Close your eyes, and when you hear a bang, try to run towards your hometown. There is a legend where I am from, this way you can return to your hometown, to where your family is.”

After the bang, the young mercenary’s body shook and then slowly stopped. Ji Xinghai suddenly became curious. When the bullet passed through his brain, was he thinking about his hometown and relatives, or the swords and blood of these years? !

T/N: I’ve seen the reviews on this novel and as I continue to translate it, I understand that the amount of patriotism and nationalism can turn you off from reading it. Translating it, I try to steer clear away from mentions of the real country. I hoped that people do not see the novel’s main country as the country which this novel is derived from. But it is extremely difficult.

I will take a break from this novel. If anyone will like to pick this up, feel free to do so.
