Recap
What exactly was love?
It allowed the Snow God to persist for so long after his divine core shattered, his soul refusing to dissipate, just to wait for Qi Ye to return. And it made the ruthless evil god endure the most excruciating pain, severing his own divine core, giving up everything, just to save his beloved.
Yan Zhao didn’t understand. He looked at the two gods, their bond radiating even in the face of such sacrifice.
He envied this kind of love, and he truly admired it.
He knew, with a certainty that resonated deep within his own divine core, that he would never go to such lengths for anyone.
The Lord of All Gods, the pinnacle of power and strength in the vast universe. Yan Zhao, having achieved his lifelong goal, sat alone on the throne of God, feeling an overwhelming sense of loneliness. For tens of millions of years, he had existed in this state, never questioning its solitude. However, witnessing Qi Ye willingly sacrifice his godhood and divine position for love, just to be with the Snow God, Yan Zhao found himself pondering a question: What is love? Is it something more valuable than authority and power? He had mastered countless profound divine mysteries, yet the true meaning of this word eluded him.
He sought answers from the Law: “Law, can you explain love to me?” The Law, being omniscient, should possess the knowledge he sought.
The Law of God responded, “Your duty to maintain the order of fate and safeguard the peace of the vast universe is a form of universal love.”
“But Qi Ye believes love is selfish,” Yan Zhao countered. “He willingly relinquished the opportunity to rule the universe, leaving the throne to me, simply to protect his Snow God.” Yan Zhao continued, “Is love synonymous with the Snow God?”
He struggled to comprehend the appeal of Bai Xue. Snow, so fragile and fleeting in the presence of the sun, was cherished and protected by Qi Ye.
After a moment of silence, the Law of God replied, “This is precisely why you are more suited to be the Lord of All Gods.”
“The Lord God requires universal love, not personal attachments.” The Law of God cautioned, “You should focus on your duties and not dwell on matters of love.”
Yan Zhao pressed his hand to his forehead and closed his eyes. “I understand, Law.”
He wasn’t consumed by thoughts of love; he was merely curious. His work was more than enough to occupy his time.
Once the Space-Time Administration was on track, he intended to take a well-deserved rest.
However, this rest led to a significant incident.
During a simple nap, the vast universe descended into chaos. Countless space-time loopholes appeared, and numerous universes collapsed and were destroyed in an instant.
Yan Zhao, feeling a headache, cast a spell to freeze the collapsing worlds and ordered the Space-Time Administration to dispatch divine envoys to address the issues.
For a considerable time, the Space-Time Administration was in disarray, severely understaffed, and overworked to the point of exhaustion. They all knew the root of the problem was the Son of Destiny from the 6666th world, a demon king named Rong Yu.
When Yan Zhao froze the troubled worlds, he used his divine sense to identify the source of the greatest disturbance—the awakening and rebellion of Rong Yu, the Son of Destiny from the 6666th world.
Rong Yu, possessing power surpassing the guardian god of his world, shattered the world barrier and escaped. At this critical juncture, only he could inflict such damage.
Yan Zhao reviewed the images from the 6666th world and confirmed that the chaos in the universe coincided with Rong Yu’s breach of the barrier.
Allowing such a demon king to roam free would undoubtedly lead to further destruction.
Yan Zhao took decisive action, issuing a wanted order in the All Gods announcement group.
This group chat, created by Yan Zhao after assuming the position of Lord God, included all the gods in the universe. Its purpose was to facilitate swift communication and cooperation in times of major events.
However, in the countless years since its creation, no event had ever shaken the universe to such an extent. This was Yan Zhao’s first message in the group.
Lord God: Rong Yu, a character from World No. 6666, has awakened and rebelled. A full-scale wanted order is now in effect. All gods in the vast universe obey this order and capture Rong Yu alive.
Rong Yu was also on the Space-Time Administration’s wanted list; apprehending the Demon King was everyone’s responsibility.
Yet, no one, not even the gods, could subdue Rong Yu. As a demon king, his power rivaled that of the Lord God, exceeding 99.9% of the gods in existence. The remaining 0.1% consisted solely of the Lord God himself.
Yan Zhao personally embarked on a hunt for Rong Yu. After pursuing him through hundreds of worlds, he finally captured the Demon King.
Yan Zhao vividly recalled the day he chased Rong Yu to a cultivation world. Rong Yu, seated on a large rock beneath a peach blossom tree in full bloom, waved a dismissive hand. “I won’t run,” he declared, a hint of weariness in his voice. “Do what you must. You’re a relentless sun, Yan Zhao.”
Summoning his golden sword, Yan Zhao aimed it at Rong Yu’s heart, just as he had during their first encounter. Back then, a flicker of despair in the Demon King’s eyes had caused his aim to falter, allowing Rong Yu to escape. This time, Yan Zhao vowed, there would be no such mistake.
Yet, as he gazed at Rong Yu, he found no fear, only a profound indifference. It was a stark contrast to the grief he’d witnessed before—a quiet, chilling despair.
Rong Yu chuckled, a hint of bitter amusement in his voice. “Heartless sun,” he murmured, “you truly intend to kill me.”
Peach blossoms, vibrant against the backdrop of Rong Yu’s black hair and crimson robes, created a scene of haunting beauty. Yan Zhao’s resolve wavered. The killing blow never fell.
Instead, he transformed the golden sword into a jade bracelet, binding Rong Yu’s immense power. Then, he banished the Demon King to a lesser realm, to atone for his perceived crimes.
With his duty seemingly fulfilled, Yan Zhao should have returned to the Myriad Gods Realm, resuming his role as guardian. He should have dismissed the entire incident as a simple matter of justice, a task completed, nothing more.
But as he lingered beneath the peach blossom tree, now devoid of Rong Yu’s presence, a sense of emptiness washed over him. The blossoms seemed to have lost their vibrant hue.
Why did he feel this way? Why was he troubled by the fate of a demon, a being he had just imprisoned?
Lost in his thoughts, Yan Zhao drifted into a restless slumber beneath the fragrant blossoms. A vivid dream unfolded, a dream of a different reality—a reality where he and Rong Yu existed in harmony, not as adversaries. He saw himself pushing Rong Yu on a swing, both of them smiling…
Upon waking, the dream’s details faded, leaving only a lingering sense of warmth and confusion. Yan Zhao shook his head, dispelling the remnants of sleep. He had to return to his duties. There was no time for idle musings.
Yet, a question lingered in his mind, a question that would continue to haunt him: Why had he dreamt such a peculiar dream?
Yan Zhao rubbed his temples. In his dream, a hundred years had passed in the cultivation world, but he didn’t know how much time had elapsed in the other realms. He needed to return as soon as possible.
___
Yan Zhao departed from the cultivation world. Instead of returning to the Myriad Gods Realm, he headed to the Space-Time Administration. The Administration had been swamped with work recently, and as its highest-ranking leader, he felt a responsibility to check in.
Upon his arrival, he overheard a conversation between a male and female divine envoy. The female envoy, seemingly new, asked curiously, “What happened next?”
“Later? The Great Demon King awakened and rebelled, throwing the universe into chaos. Most of our current work is dealing with the aftermath. But our Lord God is incredibly powerful; he has already captured the Great Demon King…” The male envoy spoke with animation. “This task was incredibly difficult.”
“It’s good to let the Great Demon King experience the feeling of near-death before leaving the army.”
Overhearing this in the shadows, Yan Zhao’s expression darkened. For some reason, he couldn’t bear to hear the word “death” associated with the Demon King.
“Senior Xue, I should report this mission to my superiors now. Excuse me.”
“Didn’t you just return from the 999th world? Was it because a space-time loophole accidentally entered the end of the world? The guardian god of the 999th world has already resolved it himself. Do you still need to report to a superior?” Senior Xue questioned.
The female divine envoy replied, worry in her voice, “An unknown outsider appeared in the 999th world. Their strength surpasses that of both local gods.”
The male divine envoy responded immediately, “Then go quickly.”
999th world? Isn’t that Qi Ye’s world? What happened? Yan Zhao wondered to himself.
However, he didn’t immediately reveal himself to question the female envoy. Instead, he decided to first inquire with the male envoy who had mentioned the Demon King. It seemed that between Qi Ye and Rong Yu, he was more concerned about the latter.
Xue Lanzhou bid farewell to Xuan Miao and was about to continue his tasks when he noticed a deity with a face shrouded in golden light at the corner. His eyes felt a sharp sting, and he stammered, “L-Lord… Lord God?”
Yan Zhao gave a slight nod.
Xue Lanzhou immediately knelt and bowed. “Xue Lanzhou pays homage… pays homage to the Lord God!”
“What did you mean by ‘dying before leaving the army’?” Yan Zhao asked in a low voice. “Did he die in the small world?”
Who is this “he” referring to? The Demon King? Xue Lanzhou was taken aback, then quickly replied, “I… I don’t know. But, but, the tasks of the BE Repair Department are very difficult. You sealed that Demon King’s power. The probability of his survival is… is not high…”
Yan Zhao remained silent, but the air pressure dropped noticeably.
After his initial nervousness and stammering, Xue Lanzhou was filled with excitement at seeing the Lord God. “Thanks to the Lord God’s wisdom and martial prowess, he captured the Demon King. When I attacked the Demon King before, it was I who nearly died…”
The air pressure around Yan Zhao lowered further. “You… attacked… him?”
“Yes, yes,” Xue Lanzhou said, embarrassed. “It’s just that I’m relatively incompetent and failed.”
Yan Zhao let out a light chuckle, then seemed a little more cheerful. “He doesn’t like you.”
…Where did I offend the Lord God? Xue Lanzhou thought, bewildered. How could the Lord God mock me, an insignificant being?
Ignoring him, Yan Zhao went to find the female envoy to inquire about the situation.
He had already checked all the information on the Demon King Rong Yu when he issued the wanted order, including the fact that Rong Yu and the Celestial princess had no spark, and the Space-Time Administration had to send envoys to capture him. At the time, he only felt something was amiss with this Son of Destiny. Now, he sensed the problem lay with the divine envoy sent to apprehend him.
There was no reason for it; he simply felt upset seeing the person who attacked the Demon King.
He even felt that the Celestial princess chosen by fate for the Demon King was not a good match.
No one could match the elegance of that red dress.
Yan Zhao, harboring selfish intentions, stopped the female envoy named Xuan Miao.
Xuan Miao had recently joined the Space-Time Administration. She had just returned from a mission in the 999th world, bringing back a concerning report. An unknown outsider had appeared in the 999th world, possessing strength surpassing both the Evil God and Snow God residing there.
Yan Zhao sensed trouble. Although the Evil God and Snow God’s powers had weakened after Qi Ye divided his godhood, they were still formidable deities. This outsider, capable of invading world 999 at will, was a serious threat.
Yan Zhao investigated thoroughly and uncovered the truth.
Behind the chaos was Li Jin.
Li Jin, a fallen god, had abandoned his duty to protect the world. Instead, he specialized in destroying worlds to absorb their luck, using these corrupt methods to increase his own power. He had even reached the realm of the Lord God through such means. His ambition extended beyond mere power; he sought to defeat Yan Zhao, usurp his position, and become the Lord of All Gods himself.
However, the realm of the Lord God attained through plundering luck was far less stable and potent than Yan Zhao’s own. Li Jin had initially remained hidden, his whereabouts unknown. He was waiting for the opportune moment to create turmoil in the vast universe and seize luck on a grand scale.
This so-called opportune moment was Rong Yu’s awakening.
While the Demon King had indeed awakened, it was Li Jin who orchestrated the destruction.
Rong Yu was the visible target, while Li Jin operated in the shadows, pinning the blame for the destruction on the Demon King. The Demon King’s strength was sufficient to occupy the Lord God’s attention. Li Jin exploited this distraction to infiltrate the 999th world and attempt to seize the godhood of both the Evil God and Snow God.
Each possessed half of the Lord God’s power. If Li Jin could plunder both, combined with his own, he would possess the might of two Lord Gods, making him a formidable opponent for Yan Zhao.
Unfortunately for him, his plan was revealed before he could complete it. Yan Zhao discovered the truth and was enraged.
He had been foolish, wrongfully accusing Rong Yu.
Yan Zhao immediately dispatched a wisp of his divine soul to the 5627th world to protect Rong Yu. Simultaneously, his true body rushed to the 999th world, where he beheaded Li Jin and extracted his godhood in a fit of vengeance.
After eradicating Li Jin, his main body merged with his divine soul and lingered in the small world with Rong Yu.
Finally, he extracted his own heart core, just as the Evil God had sacrificed his godhood.
In the Myriad Gods Realm, the deity on the throne slowly opened his golden eyes. They were no longer eternally cold and emotionless but held a glimmer of warmth.
He finally understood the meaning of love.
It was indeed selfish, passionate, and unique.
It was the sunshine that nourished all living beings, yet it could also favor and warm a single soul.
Qi Ye’s love was for the snow.
Yan Zhao’s love was for the red lotus.
He had lost his heart to Rong Yu beneath the peach blossom tree.
“I shouldn’t be waiting for him here,” Yan Zhao murmured with a smile. “He should have completed his task. I’m going to bring him home.”
Yan Zhao rose, transformed into a golden light, and descended to the 5627th world.
The world was celebrating.
The task had indeed been completed.
Yan Zhao walked through the jubilant crowds, invisible to mortal eyes.
Where was Rongrong?
Yan Zhao frowned, his smile fading. He rushed forward and picked up a small, whimpering bracelet from the ground. “Red Gold, where is Rong Yu?”
The blood jade bracelet cried out hoarsely, “Woooooo Lord God, you’re finally here! The Great Demon King’s soul lamp has been extinguished and his soul is scattered, woo woo woo…
Yan Zhao’s hand trembled, and the bracelet fell back to the ground again.
The little bracelet that was hurt from the fall: …Wow wow wow wow! ! ! ! !
Crying even louder.
Yan Zhao was stunned for a long time, and asked softly, “Whose soul lamp is extinguished?”
“Did the mission fail?” Yan Zhao smiled reluctantly, “Xi Wang’s soul lamp is extinguished?”
Blood Jade Bracelet: It’s not Xi Wang, it’s the Great Demon King! The Great Demon King is also the son of destiny, if the soul lamp is extinguished, it means he is completely dead…
“Shut up.” Yan Zhao shouted in a low voice, he hated the word “death”.
Yan Zhao half-kneeled on the ground, covering his heart in a daze.
A more violent taste than the original feeling of loss struck, as if he had lost something important forever.
This is his divine body and logically speaking, there should be no pain.
Why is it still… So painful?
